Raw Food Recipes – Enjoy The Health Benefits


Raw Mint Chocolate Cookies

You will be hearing more about our need to include some raw and uncooked foods into our daily diets but for many people they are not exactly sure what this means. We are all starting to understand and pay more attention to what we put into our mouths and the effect it is having on our bodies and our health.

Consumption of processed and refined foods is now the rule rather than the exception for the vast majority of people. It is this factor, perhaps more than any other that practically guarantees you will be struggling with both your weight and the decline of your general health. Give the boxed and packaged foods a miss, increase your intake of delicious raw food recipes and you will soon see the pounds fall off; your energy increase and your health improve.

Raw food recipes can be very tasty

One way for us to get some of this higher quality food is to include some raw food recipes in the way of healthy snacks in-between our main meals. It has long been known that healthier diets include raw foods like nuts, seeds, coconut, both fresh and dried fruits and vegetables.

You would be amazed at the variety of really tasty raw food recipes that can be made from these types of ingredients. They can be blended up to a dough like mix and hand shaped into bars, cookies, cupcakes and balls. As these ingredients need no cooking it is so easy to create the most delicious raw food recipes that will rival anything cooked or baked.

Simply put processed foods heated at high temperatures damages or nullifies many of the vitamins, minerals and beneficial phytonutrients. These vital nutrients that contribute to making a food a useful addition to our health is extracted or changed so much during processing that our body doesn’t even recognize the foods as food.

Here is an example of how delicious raw food recipes can be. This one could be used for a dessert recipe, popped in a lunch box or for an anytime snack.

Raw Mint Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients: 1 cup almonds, 1 cup dates (soaked for at least 30 minutes and drained), ¼ cup coconut, ¼ cup cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons agave nectar or any other sweetener, 1 teaspoon peppermint extract, pinch salt

Method: Blend all ingredients together in food processor or blender until the dough comes together in a crumbly yet sticky mass. Place spoonfuls of the dough in Teflon muffins cups or mini muffin molds and place in fridge to firm up.

Mint Icing

Combine shredded coconut, agave nectar or any other sweetener and vanilla extract to taste. Add a few drops of peppermint extract and a few fresh mint leaves to give a pale green color.

Blend these ingredients in the food processor adding a few drops of coconut oil to make a pliable sticky icing. Depending on how much agave nectar you have added to your icing or how much vanilla you used, this may harden when cool or stay a bit more runny. Top the cookies with the icing and put back in fridge to harden.
